Abstract

Digital‑driven economic growth has enabled digital platforms to become a major force reshaping how Chinese businesses organise and run their operations. This study starts by unpacking three key notions: digital platforms, market positioning and market expansion. Using SWOT as the primary analytical instrument, this paper compares two well‑known Chinese platform companies, WeChat and Alibaba. Through comparing how they build their business ecosystems, their internal pros and cons, alongside outside chances and challenges, this study finds that resource pooling, data‑based operation modes and ecosystem‑wide cooperation help platforms unlock substantial business growth potential. Even so, local platform firms still face real‑world obstacles. These involve data safety concerns, stricter industry supervision, limited global brand awareness and fierce market competition. Based on the analysis results, this paper puts forward actionable suggestions covering technical renovation, regulatory compliance, supply‑chain optimisation and overseas market roll‑out. It also forecasts likely development paths for Chinese platform‑based businesses, offering practical references for them to sustain competitive strength amid global digital shifts.
